"One of the best if not the best zombie series I've ever read and I've read them for years. Believable characters, consistent in their personalities, lovable and "hatable", and the type of read you literally cannot lay down. - Kim Petrey"

Could you kill your friend, your parent, your child, to save yourself? Would you risk your life to save that of a stranger? Heroes and villains rise from the ashes of what used to be civilization and an epic, blood-soaked, and brutally realistic post-apocalyptic adventure begins.

It's Stephen King's The Stand meets The Walking Dead! Graphic and well written with fully developed characters. ★★★★★

Between the vivid imagery and the gory details, I had to take a break during the second half just to get my lunch down. It was awesome! ★★★★★

Fast paced, action packed, and full of gore! I could not put it down!! ★★★★★

Awesome book. Awesome series. I don't even watch zombie shows. Every book in this series kept me wanting to read more. ★★★★★

Hell on Earth A Zombie Apocalypse Thriller Life of the Dead Book 1 eBook Tony Urban

Pretty good book of the Zombie genre. Bought it knowing there is a cast of a dozen characters to follow. Generally I much prefer one main protagonist I can get to know and root for. The characters are pretty interesting in the main part. However, with a dozen there are some just found either less interesting or less likeable. So, if you are like me and want a main character, this book does not really have it, that I could see. If you like tracking a flock of people, you will like it better.

Hell on Earth A Zombie Apocalypse Thriller Life of the Dead Book 1 eBook Tony Urban Reviews

omg...i could not put this book down..i loved the depth in which he explained the characters, the situations, the way the zombies looked, the little side jokes/comment descriptions the characters gave on the zombies..i also purchased book2 in this series, and right now im jonesing for book3 3 to come out, even befor i get to book2!
Hell on Earth is a different kind of zombie book where the story follows a dozen different characters on the dawn of the apocalypse. Since every chapter is dedicated to a specific character and his dilemma during that time, jumping back and forth seemed quite confusing, at times. It took me almost 50% of the way through before I got a handle on the characters and what's happened to them up until that point. Reminds me of the movie, "Groundhog Day", but in this story, there's a bit of repetition as many of the characters react and do the same things during that first day.

I do have to admit though that the author's descriptive and poetic prose almost had me puking up my dinner on several occasions in the second half of the book...no other zombie author has accomplished this until "Hell on Earth". I have a much clearer picture now at the end of book one of how the series might progress. I do plan on getting the next book in the series...but have to wait until my stomach returns from rehab before starting it. The author also shares his witticism throughout the book where I've suddenly laughed out loud and scared my wife in the bed next to me. Worth a read!
While the first part of this novel was a little confusing, I am very glad I continued reading as it truly improved and I found myself not wanting to put the story away. Urban does a great job of getting the reader interested in 12 seemingly unconnected characters (other than all surviving a zombie Apocalypse). I was anxious to see just how these characters would come together. I'm still intrigued as to how each of these characters will find the others. As any good writer does, Urban has not made all of his characters loveable or even likeable. I will not give away who the characters are that I was actually rooting for the zombies to catch but there are a few. There is even a couple of characters that I still do not fully understand enough about yet to know if I hope they make it or bite it. I am excited to read the other 2 books in this series.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
So I am a little torn in rating this book. On one hand the characters are extremely well written. They are believable and intriguing and you come to care about them in a short number of pages.
I came into the book expecting a lot of characters. I like a lot of characters so knowing there were a lot of characters did not put me off. What I didn't expect was a constant presentation of individual characters a chapter at a time. I think it was fifteen chapters in before we return to visit a character.
The best thing about this book - the characters are realistic and believable, and a great mix of good and bad.
The worst thing about this book - so many amazing characters that I started to gain interest in only to reach the end of the chapter and never see them again...for a very long time.
The writing is of excellent quality, and story flow improved once we got all the introductions complete, but in my opinion, just too many people to juggle at the start.
When I opened this book, it opened to the dedication page, and in 4 short lines, there were 2 errors; so I really didn't think I would like this book. Boy, was I wrong!

Yes, it is a zombie book, and follows the typical format - zombies! Shoot them in the head! - but, that's the only similarity. Tony does a really great job with his character development! He acknowledges that there are a lot of them to keep track of, but I really didn't have a difficult time with it. Each character is distinctly different, and really very realistic. There were some that I liked and some... not so much. I think, having read the first, that Tony has a surprise for us coming in the next book or so. I can't wait to find out what's next.

I definitely recommend this book.
